About me

My name is Jonathan. I joined the Software Development and Management Teams at Wikimedia Deutschland in August 2022 as the Bereichsleitung für Softwareentwicklung. This culturally translates into Head of Software Development, Director of Engineering, or Chief Technology Officer, depending on the language.

I received my PhD in Astrophysics from the University of Maryland with pre-doctoral fellowship work at CalTech and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Before that, I received two M.Sc. degrees from the University of Maryland (Astronomy) and the University of Central Florida (Mathematics), and a B.Sc. degree from the University of Central Florida (Physics).

My work

I am the Co-Head of Software Development and Chief Technology Officer at the Wikimedia Foundation. I lead the Engineering Division of Software Development with seven engineering teams integrated into seven product teams: Wikidata, Technical Wishes, Fundraising Technology, Wikibase Suites, Wikibase Cloud, Wikibase Product Product Platform, and Wikidata for Wikimedia Projects.
