Arnold Doyle (Vorder- und Rückseite): An incredible photograph circa 1891. The good looking young man in this image was a "working boy" at the infamous "Paresis Hall" male brothel, that was located in New York City. Situated on Fifth & Bowery off of Coopers Square, Paresis Hall was one of 3 male to male clubs that existed in NYC beginning in 1890. The numbers increased to no fewer than 6 by the early 1900's, which leaves one to wonder, in Victorian Society, when this sort of thing simply did not exist, it seems as though business was brisk. Male Bonding was practiced to the extreme. In this image we find a very handsome young man of 16 years, one Arnold Doyle. Arnold specialized in certain activities at the club which will be explained to the winning bidder. Photographs were always taken of the boys to be given or sold to "clients", depending on the generosity to the boy or the spending habits at the club. These photographs prompted longings and a return visit. This photograph was given to a working boy of the time, and who's collection this came from. It was given to him by the Danny. This is another photograph being sold on eBay from the collection held by a guy whose eBay seller's name is 'ParesisHall.' I have corresponded with him and he tells me he is writing a book about the NYC male brothels and the boys who worked in them. He has obtained permission from the buyer of each photo to publish it in the book. I don't know how many more photos he has, but as he lists them on eBay, I will continue to capture text and images and share them with you. They are a very significant contribution to gay history.


Barman Littlebucks(Vorder und Rückseite): An incredible photograph PC, circa 1891. The good looking men aged captured in this image were "Bar Men" at the infamous "Little Bucks" male brothel that was located in New York City. Situated on Fifth & Bowery, off of Coopers Square. Little Bucks was one of three male to male clubs that existed in NYC beginning in 1890. By the early 1900's the number of clubs swelled to 6. Given the Victorian views of the time.... when this sort of thing simply did not exist... business seemed to be brisk. The clubs offered their own form of "Male Bonding" to the extreme. These two men were the best two bar men at the time and as such, earned their boss the most. The Bar was the second largest source of income... and Paul and Harry did very well for the club with various tricks of sorts with the gents... This Photograph PC was given to a "Working Boy", who was employed at the "Like-Minded" club acroww the street....Paresis Hall. He became close friend with the two Bar Men. Billy Carpenter: An incredible rare photograph PC, circa 1892. The good looking boy captured in this image is one, William "Billy" Carpenter, age 16 years... was a "Good Boy Client" at one of the infamous male brothels..."Paresis Hall." The club was located in New York City. Situated on Fifth & Bowery, off of Cooper Square. One of three, "Male to Male clubs that existed in NYC beginning in 1890. By the early 1900's the number of clubs had swelled to 6. Given the Victorian view of the time... when this sort of thing... simply did not exist... business "Seemed to be Brisk". The clubs offered their own form of "Male Bonding" to the extreme. Cole was one of the most popular boys at the club.... given the fact of some unique "Acuired Talents"... Each of the boys applying at the clubs were subjected to an "Intense Personal Interview".... with the owner... and if not available... an assigned boy. If the boy passed his interview.... he would be hired on and given a copy of the rules of the club... a appointment schedule.... and asked/ or told to chooce a role or speciality...in his activities their. The role of the "Man"... the "Lady".... or a specialty.....Photographs were required to be taken of the boy at several local "Cabinet Studios"... these taken to provide a longing for a return visit by a paying Gent. They were given to the man or young man if his spending habits warranted... if not were made available for purchase.... This incredibly rare...113 year old... crystal clear image.... will be passed on the the high bidder. Included is the complete story behind the boy and the image.... his time spent at both of the clubs.... his specialties... his physical descriptions... his likes and dislikes... and what was in store for him, once his time at the clubs was over.....

In the case of this photograph... the roles were rather reversed.... for this young man spent quite a lot of time at the club as a client. After his first visit.... he found it almost immpossibl ...


Charley Ford (Vorder und Rückseite):An incredible photograph circa 1890. Paresis was one of three male to male clubs that existed in NYC beginning in 1890. By the early 1900's the number of clubs swelled to 6. The handsome boy.... who displays "great body language" in the photograph....is Charley Ford and was 18 years old when this photograph was taken. Every boy working at the club were required to have there photograph taken. These were sold or given to clients, depending on their spending habits at the club or the generosity to the boy. The club was owned by a Mr. Ellison. Ellison was known as a "Dandy" in every sense of the word, and took personal pride and enjoyment in "is Boys". Every young man employed at his establishment was subjected to a "lengthly interview" by Ellison personally and a "Re-interview" when ever he "fancied" it. Franceso (2* Front 2. Rückseite): An ultra rare group of 2 photographs circa 1905 and 1906 The first photograph of 2 men sitting at a table and drinking whiskey: Irving Levy & Francesco Piscopo. The young man pictured on the right was a male prostitute who practiced his art at the notorious "Little Bucks" male brothel. This brothel was located at Fifth & Bowery and off of Coopers Square. "Little Bucks" was one of 3 male to male brothels in New York City at the time. Men from all walks of life frequented these establishments, often to see a favorite boy or young man. Male Bonding with an emphasis on the physical. Working boys at the time specialized in one or more activities and were expected to please the "client" in all ways. Photographs were taken to be given or sold to the "client" depending on their generosity to the boy or spending power to the club ( great advertising and marketing ). Sometimes photos were taken of the boy and his "friend", that is if the friend was a very good paying customer. Such is the case with this photo. The boys name was Francesco Piscopo and was 16 years old at the time this photo was taken. His "good friend/client" was a much older prosperous Banker who was a frequent customer at this establishment. His name was Irving Levy. He developed a crush on young Francesco, so much so that he convinced him to leave "Little Bucks". He set him up in a Flat and provided an allowance. Bertillon photographs were used to identify criminals before fingerprinting. The information on the back is from the Detective Bureau, Police Depatment, City of New York. It lists Bertillon measurments of the Head, Trunk, Arms, Foot, etc. it also describes the young man as follows: Name: Francesco Piscopo, Crime: Homicide, Age--17, Weight--137, Date of arrest--18October 1906. Francis: An extreemly rare photograph circa early 1890's of a "Working Boy" who perfected his talents at the infamous "Paresis Hall", male brothel that was located in New York City on Fifth & Bowery and off of Coopers Square. One of three "clubs" in the early 1890's. Eventually these "male to male" clubs numbered six by the turn of the century. It is suprising that for something that "just not did exist" in society at the time, business was certainly "brisk". Paresis Hall, like the lesser known "Little Bucks" which was located across the street, specialized in "Male Bonding" in the extreem. Pictured in his "Working Bedroom" the boys name was Francis. A very good looking lad. Francis, like his co-worker Tom of the same period, was known to excel in certain "Girl Like" role playing. Francis was 14 years old when this photograph was taken. Like his friend Tom, Francis specialized in several activities while employed at the "club". A very popular young man, especially to certain clientele. This photo was given to another working boy who plyed his craft at the same establishment. A complete description of Francis and his activities will be provided to the winning bidder. In this image, the boys pictured are posed in a mock saloon brawl with the bar man pointing a pistol at the group of "working Boys". One is posed ready to throw a bottle and another is holding a chair over another boys head.

These photographs prompted longings and a return visit. Much rarer were the photographs deplicting private moments such as this. The boys were getting ready to start work in this photograph. According to the working boy who's collection this one originated, a Cabinet Photographer was brought in to capture this moment of the boys having some fun. It was given to him by one of the boys. Paresis Hall vs. Lillte Bucks (Vorder und Rückseite)

An incredible photograph PC circa 1892. The good looking young men in this image were "working boys" at the infamous "Paresis Hall" and "Little Bucks" male brothels, that were located in New York City. Situated opposite each other on Fifth & Bowery off of Coopers Square, Paresis Hall and Little Bucks were two of 3 male to male clubs that existed in NYC beginning in 1890. The numbers increased to no fewer than 6 by the early 1900's, which leaves one to wonder... in Victorian Society, when this sort of thing simply did not exist, it seems as though business was brisk. Male Bonding was practiced to the extreme.

The two clubs were arch rivals of each other and it was decided to hold a challenge out side the city where select boys from both clubs would compete in a relay race and braging rights. The owners also promised monetary rewards and gifts to the winning team. Clients and friends from both of the clubs were invited to the day out with various refreshments provided. Note: The lack of females in attendance.

Clarence and Morris

A wonderful photograph circa 1892. The image of a very good looking young man and his equally good looking trainer. The boxer in questions name was Clarence and was 21 years old at the time. His trainers name was Morris and was 29. They were a gay couple, when this sort of thing just did not exist. They were also frequent "visitors" at the infamous "Pareis Hall" male to male brothel that was located at Fifth & Bowery off of Coopers Square, in New York City. One of three "clubs" specializing in some serious "Male Bonding" of the day. The two enjoyed the company of several of the working boys both collectively and independently. This image was given to one of the "working boys" as a gift. The boys name was Jacob Miller. Jacob enjoyed the company of more than one man at a time and was very good at what he did. Somon Morgan & Friend

A extremely rare photograph circa 1893 of a "Working Boy" and his benefactor. The boy who practised his craft at the infamous "Paresis Hall" male brothel that was located in New York City on Fifth and Bowery and off of Coopers Square. One of three "clubs" in 1890. Eventually these "male to male" clubs numbered six by the turn of the century. It is suprising that for something that "Just did not exist" in Victorian Society, business was indeed brisk. "Paresis Hall" like it's lesser known counterpart, "Little Bucks which was located across the street specialized in "male bonding" in the extreme. Pictured in the photograph is a very cute boy who's name was Simon Morgan with his Rich "Friend", Mr. Garrett. When this photograph was taken, Simon was 15 years old. His "friend" was 35 years old. Mr. Garrett became smitten with Simon the moment he laid eyes on the boy. A very good "client" at the club, Mr. Garrett, once meeting Simon, gave up on the other boys that he had taken a fancy to in the club. Simon specialized in several activities while employed at the club, which Mr. Garrett found astonishing. A very popular boy at Paresis... Mr. Garrett became quite "Jealous" of his having to share the boys affections. This led to an arrangement made with the boy. The club insisted that every boy employed had their photograph taken. These were sold or given to "clients", depending on their generosity to the boy or their spending habits at the club. They were used to promote longings and a return visit to the club. Good customers were allowed their photo taken with one or more of the boys. This one was given to a friend of Simon who was also a working boy at the time. Timothy Sullivan

A rare photograph circa early 1890's of a "Working Boy" who perfected his talents at the infamous "Paresis Hall", male brothel that was located in New York City on Fifth & Bowery and off of Coopers Square. One of three "clubs" in the early 1890's. Eventually these "male to male" clubs numbered six by the turn of the century. It is suprising that for something that "just not did exist" in society at the time, business was certainly "brisk". Paresis Hall, like the lesser known "Little Bucks" which was located across the street, specialized in "Male Bonding" in the extreem. Pictured in the photograph is Timothy Sullivan. A extreemly cute young man. Tim was very fond of performing and perfecting his craft at the club. Tim was about to turn 14 years old when this photograph was taken, and according to the "working boy" it was given to, was one of the youngest boys working at the "club" during his time spent there. Too embarrassed to have his photograph taken at a studio associated with the "club" or other "working boys", he asked to have his photograph taken elsewhere. It was done in a near by alley way by an unrelated studio photographer... this condition will be addressed in "his story" to the winning bidder. A incredibly popular young man, who enjoyed role playing: The specialty was playing the part of the "young son" who has misbehaved and was waiting for "His Father" to arrive to punish him and more, much more!!! Photographs were either given or sold ( depending on the generoisity to the boy or spending habits at the club ), thus promoting a longing and a return visit. This photo was given to another working boy who plyed his craft at the same establishment. Willie Charlie

a very rare photograph post card circa 1890's. the image of two very good looking boys. the boys pictured applied their skills at the infamous "little bucks" that was located in new york city on coopers square and opposite of the better known "paresis hall". "little bucks" was one of three "males only" clubs that specialized in male to male bonding in the strictest sense of the word. photographs were often given to "clients" ( depending on their generosity to the boys ) they were taken home to be viewed in privacy when the "clients" family was out of the home, eventually prompting a longing and a return visit to "little bucks" and "the boys". the boys in this image were two of the highest paid working boys at "little bucks" for the short period of their employment. they worked together with the "client", and specialized in role playing activities. the boy on the left was willie williams. the boy on the right was charlie pegley. what is even more remarkable, is the fact that they were a couple on the off hours. interesting body language displayed by both boys. the complete story of "willie & charlie" will be provided to the winning bidder the story was passed on to me by the rare photography / antiques dealer that i purchased from in nyc some years ago. he possessed an intimate knowledge of the photo through a relationship he had as a very young man with a much older man. this same man was a working boy at paressis hall as a 15 year old. much of this mans belongings were left to the eventual dealer. crystal clear image measures 5 1/2" x 3 1/2" the boys names are written on the back of the card. near the top right is also written c + w. // a wonderful rare piece of gay history.

Situated on Fifth & Bowery off of Coopers Square, Paresis Hall was one of 3 male to male clubs that existed in NYC beginning in 1890. The numbers increased to no fewer than 6 by the early 1900's, which leaves one to wonder, in Victorian Society, when this sort of thing simply did not exist, it seems as though business was brisk. Male Bonding was practiced to the extreme. In this image we find a very handsome young man of 21 years, one Willie (The Bull) Pearson. Miller stated that the nick name had something to do with what is partly showing at the young mans private area. Willie specialized in certain activities at the club which will be explained to the winning bidder. Working Boys as Wolring Boys

An incredible photograph circa 1890. The 29 good looking young men aged 13 to 18 captured in this image were "working boys at the infamous "Paresis Hall" male brothel, that was located in New York City. Situated on Fifth & Bowery off of Coopers Square. Paresis was one of 3 male to male clubs that existed in NYC beginning in 1890. The numbers increased to no fewer than 6 by the early 1900's, which leads one to wonder, in Victorian society, when this sort of thing simply did not exist, it seems as though business was brisk. Male Bonding was practiced to the extreem. In this crystal clear image all of the boys display great body language. As passed on by one of the working boys, Mr. Ellison, the owner of the brothel thought it would be "quite a lark" to have the boys dressed up as real "working boys" and as such arranged the loan of all of the equipment as displayed in this photograph. It was provided by one of his good clients, who was a frequent visitor to the club. The boys were then posed at a local studio. The photographs were given to each of the boys, good customers and available for sale to other clients. Jacob Miller who is pictured in the photograph, and who's collection this originated said that everyone got a good chuckle over the photo, and many adorned the offices & businesses of many a "friend of the club".
