In the Car-2-Car Communication Consortium (C2C CC), leading European vehicles manufacturers, equipment suppliers and research institutions join forces for the deployment of cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems and Services (C-ITS).

The wireless V2V (vehicle-to-vehicle), V2I (vehicle-to-infrastructure) and V2P (vehicle-to-personal) communication via Vehicular Ad-hoc Network will lead to a safer, more efficient and more comfortable future mobility. It is an inevitable requirement for the long-term vision towards accident free and highly automated driving.

The main objective of the CAR 2 CAR Communication Consortium is the:

  • development,
  • testing and
  • deployment of cooperative Systems in Europe

based on

  • inter-vehicle,
  • vehicle to roadside and
  • vehicle to other road user equipment

short-range communication for improving:

  • road safety and
  • road efficiency.

Other complementary communication like cellular is considered where required.

Overview / History

[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

The Consortium has been founded in 2002 with the objective of developing European standards for C-ITS, as prerequisite for interoperability of systems improving road safety and road efficiency. Moreover, the CAR 2 CAR members discuss realistic deployment strategies, a roadmap to deployment and business models to speed-up the market penetration. In close collaboration with international stakeholders, especially from the US and Japan, the Consortium pushes the harmonisation of V2X communication standards world-wide.

Two classes of membership are distinguished:

  • Active and
  • Basic

Companies and organizations that are active members of the CAR 2 CAR Communication Consortium

[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]
  • actively support the mission and objectives of the CAR 2 CAR Communication Consortium
  • nominate experts for committees and working groups
  • support and contribute to CAR 2 CAR weeks, demonstrators and events
  • pay a yearly financial contribution (decided by the General Assembly, reduced rates for SMEs)

Basic Membership of the CAR 2 CAR Communication Consortium

[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

The Basic membership is open to individual persons and company representatives that want to become familiar with the Consortium and its activities in cooperative ITS deployment. The Basic Membership allows one expert to participate in the annual CAR 2 CAR Forum organised by the C2C-CC.

The Basic Membership is a personnel membership, granted for a 12 months period starting either on 1st January or 1st July of a year, and linked to an annual fee.

Car 2 Car CC’s main product is the Basic System Profile (C2CCC_RS_2037_Profile) which is profiling V2X ETSI standards.

Furthermore, has Car 2 Car CC specified use cases, which describe situations (triggers) and the according messages, which shall be send out. This documents are the so called Triggering Conditions:

  • C2CCC_RS_2002_AdverseWeather
  • C2CCC_RS_2003_DangerousSituation
  • C2CCC_RS_2004_ExchangeOfIRCs
  • C2CCC_RS_2005_SpecialVehicle
  • C2CCC_RS_2006_StationaryVehicle
  • C2CCC_RS_2007_TrafficJam

Beyond this completed the HSM Protection profile:

  • C2CCC_PP_2056_HSM

the last release.

Car 2 Car CC’s release approach forces to release bundles of consistent Document.

The last release was R1.3.0 was done in 2018 and contained al above mentioned documents.
