Beruflicher Werdegang

Professor Jacobs, a historian, graduated from University of California, Los Angeles (U.C.L.A.) and earned 1973 his Ph.D. in history from the University of Wisconsin

In 1973, he completed his doctoral dissertation in field of intellectual history at the University of Wisconsin--Madison on the controversy over unidentified flying objects in America. This was only the second Ph.D. degree granted involving a UFO-related theme. A revised version of his dissertation was published by Indiana University Press as The UFO Controversy in America (1975

My current research interests involve a delineation of the role of anomalous experiences in personal and cultural life. I have also been involved in research in anticommunism during the post-World War II era. My primary teaching interests are in the history of popular culture in the United States.

Professor Jacobs, who teaches a variety of history courses, has taught the one-semester U.F.O. course since 1977.

Dr. Jacobs began researching the controversy over unidentified flying objects in America in the mid 1960's, and has amassed over 38 years of primary research data and analytical hypotheses on the subject.


Since 1972, he has appeared on hundreds of radio and television shows including Larry King Live, shows on the Discovery Channel, The Learning Channel, the national broadcast networks, the Fox News Channel, CNN, CNBC, the BBC, National Public Radio’s “and Science Friday.” His talk show appearances include “Montel Williams,” “Joan Rivers,” “The Other Side,” and many others. He has been on The Art Bell radio show many times. He has been on numerous news magazine shows like “Current Affair,” “Hard Copy,” and so forth. He has appeared on television shows in Europe, South America, Australia, and Japan. (SiFi)
