[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]Dirk Haller studied Food Technology (1990 - 1997) and Nutrition Science (1993 - 1996) at the University of Hohenheim. From 1999 - 2000 he worked as a scientist at Nestlé Research Center in Lausanne/Switzerland, Department of Immunology and received his doctor's degree in 2000 (Dr. rer. nat.; Modulation of the immune response by non-pathogenic bacteria). During 2001 - 2002 he was DFG Emmy Noether research fellow at the University of North Carolina/USA, Department of Medicine followed by a three year leadership of the Emmy Noether Junior Research Group at Technical University of Munich/Germany (TUM) (2003-2006). At TUM he continued as an Associate Professor (W2) from 2006-2008 and became Full Professor (W3) in 2008. Dirk Haller declined an Associate Professorship at University of Alberta/Canada, Department of Medicine in 2005 as well as a Full Professorship at ETH Zürich/Switzerland in 2007. From 2007 - 2016 he was Head of Department, Nutrition and Food Sciences at TUM School of Life Sciences. Since 2014 he is director of ZIEL - Institute for Food & Health, Technical University of Munich.
Prof. Haller is dedicated to understand mechanisms of microbe-host interactions in the digestive tract and explores the question how the microbiome affects chronic pathologies, including inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), colorectal cancer (CRC) and Typ-2-Diabetes.
