Meic Stephens, Companion, 780: The WBH is a ms dating from the mid-15th century which Robert Vaughan believed had been copied by Lewys Glyn Cothi. It was destroyed in a fire in 1810 while in the keeepint of a London bookbinder. The several descriptions of its contents which have survived suggest that this was a ms of some importance. Among its contents were a text of the Laws of Hywel Dda, copies of the statute of Rhuddlan, Y Bibyl Ynghymraec, Cysegrlan Fuchedd, the Elucidarium and examples of poetry in the strict metres, including the earliest substantial collection of the work of Dafydd ap Gwilym, which was transcribed by John Davies of Mallwyd (1567--1644) in Pen. 49. A transcript of parts of the ms in the hand of Thomas Wiliems (1545/46--1622) and another in that of Evan Evans (Ieuan Fardd, 1730--88) are preserved in the BL and NLW respectively.
