• A Swiss-German professor operating in America, Adolf Meyer, coined the term "Mental Hygiene".
• In 1908 the Connecticut Society for Mental Hygiene, the starting point of the Mental Hygiene movement as an organised body, was founded. Its aims were: improved treatment for the insane, and the safeguarding of the public's mental health.
• From the annual reports of the National Council for Mental Hygiene one can see many names that are also common in the Eugenics Society, including:

   Major Leonard Darwin - Officer of the Eugenics Society
   Dr. A. F. Tredgold - Psychiatric Member of the Eugenics Society
   Dr. Adolf Meyer - Member of the Eugenics Society.

• However, with the growth of the mental hygiene movement [starting in 1908 in Connecticut and spreading throughout the world in the 1920's] a second more vigorous phase was entered. The Mental Health movement in each country became the primary lobbyist for the Eugenic cause, frequently doing the front-line work of the Eugenics movements and generally acting as an authoritative pressure group with the result that eugenic principles began to appear again in legislation.

Posthume Rufschädigung?

Offenbar scheint ein anonymer IP Adolf Meyer in Verruf zu bringen zu wollen, in dem er Meyer via Psychohygiene in die Nähe der bösen Eugeniker rückt. Auch der Einschub der persönlichen Meinung der Schülerin Pappenheim, die das analytische Niveau als "primitiv" (keine wissenschaftliche Bewertung) empfunden haben soll, dient wohl dem selben Zweck? Korrektur

Als die Seite vorübergehend gesperrt war, konnte ich die Korrektur bzw. die Ergänzung nicht anbringen: Else Pappenheim war Sektretären von Adolf Meyer. Bei Gelegenheit komme ich darauf zurück.
