Gefängnis wegen "Atheismus" oder wegen "Blasphemie"?

Zitat aus dem deutschen Artikel: "Er war der letzte Engländer, der wegen Atheismus Gefängnisstrafe zu erleiden hatte;..."

Zitat aus dem englischen Artikel: "At an early age he became an Owenite lecturer, and in 1841 was the last person convicted for blasphemy in a public lecture, though this had no theological character and the incriminating words were merely a reply to a question addressed to him from the body of the meeting."

Wurde man im England der damaligen Zeit wegen "Unglaubens" an sich bestraft, oder nur wegen konkreter, als "blasphemisch" angesehener Äusserungen? Ich bin kein Spezialist für Holyoake, aber ich finde, man sollte den deutschen Artikel dem englischen anpassen.

Laut dem englischen WP-Artikel über die einschlägigen Gesetze wurde der Blasphemiebegriff auch gegen Unitarier und Atheisten verwendet.

Zitat: "The Blasphemy Act 1698 enacted that if any person, educated in or having made profession of the Christian religion, should by writing, preaching, teaching or advised speaking, deny that the members of the Holy Trinity were God, or should assert that there is more than one god, or deny the Christian religion to be true, or the Holy Scriptures to be of divine authority, he should, upon the first offence, be rendered incapable of holding any office or place of trust, and for the second incapable of bringing any action, of being guardian or executor, or of taking a legacy or deed of gift, and should suffer three years imprisonment without bail."

Ziemlich schlimm, aber so war's offenbar. Die deutsche Formulierung erscheint mir also korrekt Robert Schediwy 10:03, 17. Feb. 2009 (CET)
