Jerry Hurwitz
[Quelltext bearbeiten]Jerry Hurwitz (July 17, 1920 - December 12, 1994) was an American jazz trumpeter. He was employed as an entertainer and musician at a number of New York City clubs and recorded with several jazz luminaries including saxophonists Gerry Mulligan and Zoot Sims. He was credited on albums as both Jerry Hurwitz and Jerry Lloyd.
Early life
Jerry Hurwitz was born Jerome Lloyd in New York City on July 17, 1920 to Aaron H. Lloyd and Lena Herwitz. According to his obituary in the Indiana Gazette (Indiana, Pennsylvania) he had a brother named Sidney Hewitt, and was predeceased by his wife, Constance.
Life
Hurwitz drove a cab part-time for the New York Yellow Cab Company before his retirement. His discography indicates that his brief and sporadic recording career spanned the years 1951 to 1958. His first professional credit as a jazz musician was as a trumpeter for Gerry Mulligan on the 1951 album Historically Speaking.
Death
Hurwitz died on December 12, 1994 at Western Queens Community Care Home in New York. He was buried at Saint Elizabeth's Cemetery in Starford, Indiana County, Pennsylvania.

Erstmal danke für den Fund der Traueranzeige. Die Mutter soll wohl Lena Hurwitz Lloyd (mit Mädchennamen) heißen und nicht Lena Herwitz wie du in den Text eingesetzt hast ? Bitte die Literatur so zitieren wie hier üblich, also Ira Gitler, From Swing to Bop etc und nicht einfach Webseiten mit wahrscheinlich illegalen Kopien, und die Referenzen haben hier auch eine bestimmte Form (Hilfe:Einzelnachweise).
