Correct spelling of the name
[Quelltext bearbeiten]Excuse me for writing English. What is exactly the correct spelling of the name:
- "Carl Brunner von Wattenwyl" (English Wikipedia, VIAF, etc.), or
- "Karl Brunner von Wattenwyl" (most spellings in VIAF), or
- "Karl Brunner-von Wattenwyl" (German and Dutch Wikipedia).
Historisches Lexikon der Schweiz gives "Karl Brunner von Wattenwyl" (so without the dash).
Burgerbibliothek Bern sagt "Karl (Friedrich) Brunner".
Die Helveticat-kartei (Dritte Weblink) gives no record at all.

- Hi, Karl Friedrich Brunner was his official name (Taufname). Karl Brunner-von Wattenwyl is a double name (- = allié), saying that his wife's maiden name was von Wattenwyl. In 1880 he had been knighted by the Austrian Emperor with the title and style Karl Ritter Brunner von Wattenwyl (Reichsritter), without dash. That is what the 1899 Burgerbuch (directory of burghers of Berne) officially says. Yours--Funck77 (Diskussion) 18:31, 27. Dez. 2020 (CET)
- Thanks a lot, @Benutzer:Funck77 for your quick answer! That leaves me with the question: what is the most preferable way to name the article? Is it the German style, or the English, or ....? What is your opinion about this? --Dick Bos (Diskussion) 11:38, 29. Dez. 2020 (CET)
