Diskussion:Torres-Inseln (Vanuatu)
Letzter Kommentar: vor 13 Jahren von Womtelo in Abschnitt Über Île Lonagavanoua
Guten Tag, (Entschuldigung, I'll speak English). Zollwurf is right. I know the Torres Islands very well, and I confirm that there is no island named Lonagavanoua:
- the supposed island is a peninsula
- it is not called Lonagavanoua, but Nēnye [ ]
- Lonagavanoua is an attempt (very bad, as usual on maps drawn by non-linguists) to transcribe, using French spelling, the Hiw words Yo Nego Vönyö [ ]. But this word does not refer to the peninsula; it designates the whole eastern coast of the island, as opposed to Yo Vane [ ] the western coast.
- as for Tinemë Vönyö [ ] (literally ‘island's neck’), it designates the isthmus that ties the peninsula to the mainland.
- all this info is summarised on my toponymic map of Hiw; it is partly reflected on this map too.
- Sorry, but there is no publication (yet) that explains all this. This comes from my research.
In sum, you should remove the entry Lonaganavanoua from WP, and from the Torres-Inseln page. Tschüss, -- Womtelo 00:28, 10. Feb. 2011 (CET)
