Provinz Shikoku

I've been working on getting decent articles for all the Japanese provinces on nl.wikipedia. The dutch wikipedia uses almost the same structure as the German wikipedia, and we use alot of information from both the english and German wikipedia. I noticed that the German wikipedia mentions the province of Shikoku. I tried finding information on shikoku, but couldn't find any. I also used the ancient name 'Iyo-no-futana-shima', but found no mentioning of a province named Shikoku.
I have come to suspect that there never was a province named Shikoku, and that any mention of it is in reference to the current 'region Shikoku'. As far as I can tell, the German list of provinces is partly based on the english version (?). I believe that the province of Shikoku could have been a mistake in transferring of information. I therefore would like to know on what source the province of Shikoku is based, and if there is non, would like to question its existence. Kind regards, Taketa 17:17, 22. Apr. 2009 (CEST)
