Query

Hi. I don't fully understand the current status of the project. Is it live and fully working? If there is some data that I would like to get hold of, do I just issue a query to the server such as this and copy/paste the result into an excel file to analyse? Sorry if I'm a bit dim. The project should work if the database on the toolserver is running but in the moment I get also no result. The last update from english wikipedia was done on 2008-10-08. We hope the next update is coming this week. Which tool you use for analyses is equal you can also using only your eyes. It should be much faster for you with our tool to extract the datas for one template than by using the dump with actual 7.8 GB. --Kolossos 08:19, 16. Feb. 2009 (CET)

New kind of template on french WP

In order to have a common template for personalities, a french project developed a new type of template called "modbox". That's a modular template which splits the different characteristics of a person in groups. That allows the use of common fields for all templates but let the possibility of adaptation. Example for Arnold Schwarzenegger who is an actor and a politician. Now we have to choose the template (politician or actor) for that person:

With the new template we can put all these elements in one template. This template is focused on the person and not on his position. In order to keep a link with the project Persondata we split the activities and the person data. So now with the new template we have something like that:

As there is some resistance against the change of the present infoboxes we expect that with the possibility to perform global search about personalities it will be easier to make the infoboxes uniform. Just an idea

Sorry to disturb you again but I have a proposition for a further development of your database: creation of dynamic list. As you improve your extraction system in order to renew the database after each dump, it can be interesting to use your database to create list of articles sharing common features to WP. I don't know if it is possible to create one template which get directly the data from your database like {{ImportDataToolserver|"Infobox name"|"Parameter1"|"Parameter2"| ... }}.
An exemple could be that: {{ImportDataToolserver|Chimiebox|Nom|Formule|masseMol}} to obtain this page.

It is not possible to get access with mediawiki-template to external datas. Thats a security question and not solveable with external solutions like templatetiger. A solution would be only possible with mediawiki-extensions like fr:Semantic MediaWiki.

But it would be very easy to generate automatic lists like Modèle:Chimiebox/Extraction/Formules brutes in Wiki-syntax with the help of the datas. Everybody with toolserver-account have directly access to the datas and can write a script to do this. An example sql-commando can you found here. One way would be to copy the result in the wiki, the other way would be to link only from the wiki to the script with the dynamic list. I hope this answer your question. --Kolossos 16:44, 14. Ursache war, dass ich mein Einleseprozeß gestartet hatte obwohl Stefans Skript noch lief. Stafan, du wolltest doch mal schauen, wann bei dir im Skript das Datum gesetzt wird nach dem ich mich richte. This is an long term proposal: We collect immense amounts of data without doing much effort do make it processurable. A natural extension of what we do is a project data.wikimedia.com, providing a host for data with an orientation on processurability by (computer-)programs. This would work hand in hand with wikipedia-Projects as de:Wikipedia:WikiProjekt_Vorlagenauswertung/en The steering by wikimedia is needed because we have an hypertext environment which is adapted to put any amout of human readable text into context, but not to host data.

This is the first and sole paragraph of http://strategy.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Erzbischof/data.wikimedia.org . Maybe someone connected with this project would like to bring his on ideas into. fr dump

Is there something wrong with the french dump?

For example tt says Infobox Gare usage is 60 whereas it should be more than 4000...

Dump update scheduling

Hi. On itwiki we are applying some changes on synoptic templates: I found this tools and this is exactly what I'm looking for! I've noted that database dump was updated 3 months ago for itwiki. Hello Dzag, I start normaly every 2 or 3 months a new session where I scan all dumps new. At the moment it run parallel 3 dumpscans. I think in the next 2 or 3 days also itwiki will be done. At the moment I think the change of a dump is not so big, if you see how big the XML-File is. Maybee in the future I will implement a script where you can start a new scan as user. First the checkwiki-script scan the dump and generate the template-tiger-file. So when the last checkwiki-scan of ptwiki is 8 months old, then also the data in templatetiger is 8 months old. In the next days I will scan also ptwiki new. -- sk (Diskussion) 14:28, 2. Aug. 2012 (CEST)

Probleme mit Vorlagenauswertung

Erstmal danke für die Tools, einige wie das hier brauche ich zwar nur sporadisch aber ich finde sie grossartig. Nun zu meinem Problem:

obige beiden Abfragen scheitern aus dem selben Grund, scheinbar die Tabellengrösse. Da es sich aber nicht um die meistverwendeten Vorlagen handelt, kann ich aber nicht ganz nachvollziehen, dass es da Probleme geben sollte. Gibt es eine Lösung oder "work around" ?
