  • Skene (USA, Lewiston ME (Prod.) & Springfield MA (Firmensitz))[9][11]
The new Stewart-Coats steam car made by the Y. F. Stewart Motor Car Co., Bowling Green, Ohio, is a five passenger, six cylinder, 110-inch wheelbase job with electric lighting and starting. It will retail at about $ I 085. In appearance the car resembles the modern internal combustion engine car, its lines resembling the conservative sport model type. The company planning to build this new creation of the industry is the Coats Co., Merchants Bank Building, Indianapolis. The rear axle is a combination of an engine and axle. Six cylinders are used, three driving each rear wheel. From this construction it will be seen that the differential has. been eliminated. The cylinders are set in the center of the rear axle and each group drives a single throw crankshaft which is part of and integral with the drive shaft for each wheel.[15]

The Urban was a battery-operated electric. The initial model was a modest ½-tonner but in later years a number of chassis were offered, up to 2-tonners. Edison alkaline batteries were used in all models, and final drive was by double chains. Open and enclosed models of delivery vans were offered on chassis with wheelbases to 10 feet, 10 inches.

The Transformer I luxury electric car was built by Creative for Robert R. Aronson’s Electric Fuel Propulsion Corp. (EFP) from 1974-77 using Chevrolet Malibu donors. Powered by a 180-volt lead-cobalt battery the cars included a small trailer which held a gas-powered 50 kW Fast Charger which could be used to charge the vehicle on long trips. Creative designed and manufactured the fiberglass front end cover that replaced the stock Malibu grill.
Literature claimed that the ‘Cadillac of modern electric cars’ could travel for 1,100 miles at a speed of 50 mph, providing the trailer-mounted generator tagged along. Otherwise, the car had a cruising range of two hours on a single charge. Known customers included the London Towne Livery Service of Beverly Hills, California who leased two examples in 1974 and Avis Auto Rental of Chicago who leased twelve of the cars in July of 1976. Leon Dixon relays that Hollywood actor Lloyd Bridges also drove one of the vehicles.
